Parma en Serke, The Lay of the Valheru

Parma en Serke (The Book of Blood)

In the beginning six Gods created the world. These six looked upon their creation an were pleased with the beauty that they beheld, and so for a time they were content.

Now one of those Gods, whose own creation was from Law and Good, decided that the world lacked life. He thought to resolve this failing and created a magnificent beast of pure gold. This creature in time became known, and feared, as a Dragon. Now this Dragon looked upon his creator, who assumed a similar form, and named him Bahamat. And Bahamat was pleased. But another was jealous, this Goddess felt love for Bahamat and could tolerate no other worshipping her loved one. To console herself she created a similar being, but whose skin was bright scarlet. And she was so pleased with her work that she also assumed dragon form, but with five heads. The Red Dragon named his own creator as Tiamat, and she was pleased. Soon the world was populated with many of the dragon kind, of all varying colours, both metallic and not. But the creation of Tiamat infused evil within her and thus into her creations, and so a great rivalry grew between the cultures within the dragon kingdom.

Upon seeing this, a third God, Nerah, intervened with powerful spells to prevent the destruction of the world. These spells gave the dragon kind mortal life spans and the ability to reproduce. With only mortal lives numbers soon reduced to allow new creation. Nerah was a special goddess, as infused within her were all four elements of Law, Chaos, Good and Evil, thus it is that she strives for perfection through balance. She turned on both Bahamat and Tiamat, and the two Dragon-Gods took shame. It was at this time that the Gods dispersed to their own planes to think. After a time they returned to hold council...

It was decided that a weaker race of beings should be created, a race of intelligence rather than muscle, and it was the fourth of the six who put forward a design of a race called the Valheru. All the Gods agreed that the design was good but differences between the designer and the Dragon-Gods prevented any further action. So it was decided by Nerah and her associates that a break was needed to allow each of the Gods to think over the plans. But during this break the original designer created his Valheru and set them upon the world. Upon seeing this an emergency council was held and it was decided that to off set the Evil instilled in the Valheru by their creator the two Gods of Good, Bahamat and his son Corellon Larethian, must create a similar race called Elves.

The Valheru flourished in early infancy, and threw themselves into the worship of their creator, they gave him a name that is feared, not only on this world, but many others, they called him Set. Slowly the Valheru dominated the Elves through war and subjugated them to slavery. But the Gods did not want to upset the delicate balance, and so could do nothing. Thus it was that Thammut, a God dedicated to Law and Knowledge, went wandering far beyond the realms of this world to seek a solution.

Despite their need for domination and evil, the Valheru developed many things and ideas. Time was first measured by them, by looking at the movement of the Sun and the two moons. Magic became a powerful tool and weapon for the Valheru, and technology became advanced beyond our ken today. This was the first civilization.

Upon returning Thammut could see that the corrupt Valheru were soon to wage war upon the Gods, thus he called together the council of Gods, with the exception of Set who was barred from attending. On his travels he had found a way of creating new Gods and suggested that it was necessary to do so. And it was that between the five remaining Gods they created Clannu, Solonor Thelandira, Arvoreen, Surtur, Thrym, Grolantor and Skoraeus Stonebones, 'The War Gods'. Thammut had also discovered an ancient tome on Time to which  he could put no sense, but upon seeing the book Nerah could read and understand parts. Thus it was  that Nerah could predict when the Valheru planned to attack. The War Gods were sent to deal with the menace, but it was soon discovered that no God could uncreate that which was created, so Tiamat stepped forward and banished the weakened Valheru to her realm, Hell and the Abyss. Set, it seemed vanished and would not appear for many millennia.

And so it was that the Valheru were defeated, the Gods returned to their own pleasures. Tiamat undertook the guarding of the hells, to prevent the most powerful Valheru (a race called Devils) from returning. Thammut to his books, Bahamat and Nerah in council and Corellon to his Elves, who had found their own freedom. But the War Gods were dissatisfied, for they had nothing to do. Corellon welcomed the two most passive, Solonor and Arvoreen as advisors to his rule of the Elves. But of the other five nothing could be found. Thus it was that Nerah took pity on them and called the Greater Gods together. This council decided to create new variations on the Elves, and so it was that Humans and Giants were formed. Clannu, seeing the quick mind of the Human race took them unto himself, the others took the Giants, and adapted them to they personal tastes.

Thus were the Gods pleased for many generations, as measured by Elves, but this stable time was not to last. For, from a distant universe there came a cry for help. This cry was from two alien Gods, the leaders of different pantheons, who were known as Moradin and Gruumsh. Their request was for their followers to be allowed into this world to escape the death of their own. The greater Gods took pity and agreed, thus it was that Dwarves and Orcs were introduced to Guyendor.

The new Gods were great in number and Nerah, Thammut, Bahamat, Tiamat and Corellon decided to enlarge their own pantheons. The first to be created was Kozi, who clothed himself in scales and took the sea to be his home. Kozi found a kindred spirit in Clannu and they became great friends and judged men on their stamina and will. Tiamat created Mafrym who took the night and thievery for his domain. Ka was Thammut's son, and received all the works on magic for his study. Mokko was the beloved daughter of Bahamat, he created her with such care and kindness that she is the most beautiful creature in existence, but rather than reside with her father, Mokko befriended Corellon Larethian and now dwells in his plane. Finally Nerah created the twins, Carrin and Teiga. One she gave the domain of nature - which Nerah holds most dear, and the other healing for which she saw much need in times to come. Thus it was that the Gods of humanity were created.

Corellon, being the only Greater God of the older race, sought another with which he could share his domain, to this end he found the wandering God Yondalla. Together with the help of Nerah, these two created nine more Gods to rule the Elves. Aerdrie Faenya to rule the weather, Erevan Ilesere for the mischievous nature found in most Elves, Hanali Gelanil for the beauty and grace of the race, Label Eworth was a gift from Nerah, to him she gave ageing. He is master of this sphere and it is thus that the Elves live such long lives. Sashelas was created for the sea and Rillifane Rallathil was created to tend the great forests of the Elves and became a close friend of Carrin. Sheela Peryroyl also had interests in nature, and became the Goddess of Agriculture, Cyrrollalee was created to influence friendships between all the diverse races and finally Lolth, Goddess of Evil, was Nerah's final 'gift' to balance the good being created in the world.

Now the Elves and dwarves became great friends and many trades were passed between them. But already divides were apparent within both races.
Lolth exploited the closeness of the two races and bedded a male dwarf. The product of this union was the demi-god Brandobaris. Also Dwarves and Elves started to live as man and wife. But the offspring were neither Elf or Dwarf but a race termed as Halfling. Once this started to occur the tribes began to split. The Dwarves reduced into five factions, Grey, Hill, Mountain and two new races collectively known as 'Gnomes'. The Grey Dwarves travelled north into Orc country, and the Gnomes dug themselves deeper into the earth. The Elves also split into differing tribes. The Moriquendi, dark Elves, fled north, the Earquendi took to the seas with their God Sashelas. The Ranquendi, Wild Elves, all but disappeared in their travels, and finally the Hwestquendi and Araquendi stayed in the traditional Elven home of Eldamar. The split in the races also split the gods. Of the Elven Gods Sashelas went with the Earquendi, Lolth guided the Moriquendi, Rillifane the Ranquendi (or those that are left), Yondalla, Sheela, Arvoreen, Cyrrollalee and Brandobaris took on the new race of Halflings who settle in their own country to the south. Of the Dwarven Gods not much is known, except they also became divided amongst their peoples.

Thus was the end of the great divide, the main races were now created, but this was only the beginning and many more races have been created, and yet more declined.
