Mages, Magic Overview, Magic Pools, Spell ExamplesMagic Smithing

Magic has a long history in Guyendor. The very first race, the feared Valheru (see  Parma en Serke  for more details on them) developed this powerful resource and used it against the Gods themselves. These days, whilst still very powerful, mages are usually content to study and develop their personal power base. Elves obviously have had a long association in wizardry and can manipulate it well, but choose not to use it for anything but the good of Eldamar. Finally humans have come into the power. There are several different styles of mage in the known world.

Firstly you have the Pythonian priests, in game terms they are wizard priests with a bent for destroying those who do not worship their God Set. The outlook of these fanatics is swayed by their desperate need to find all the artefacts left by the Valheru. This often leaves them bordering on insanity who are trying to reinstate the domination of the Valheru. - NOT RECOMMENDED AS PC's.

The Wizards of Shem are acknowledged as some of the most powerful in the civilized world. They have also studied many of the Valheru artefacts, but have since branched into their form of the ancient lore. The country from which these wizards come from has a Magocracy (a wizard government) they are held in such esteem, this leads to  to few of these powerful personages ever leaving Shem. - VERY RARE AS PC's.

The third, and most prolific, of the recognized types of mage are those found in the Eevanarian empire. They style themselves on the Wizards of Shem, and have even sent various apprentices to the colleges set up there, but the regard for which the Wizards are held is not forth coming. Mages are few - perhaps only 100 are known to have reached full mastery (9th level) - and tests are hard, only 30% make the grade to become an apprentice (1st level), with only 10% of those taking the final Mastery test succeeding.  If this wasn't tough enough, the magic itself can be extremely hard to learn!
Mages usually live in towers with up to 5 apprentices, some have been known to live in the same tower, but that is rare, at the moment there are 46 known Master Mages. All characters of this class, in the Empire, owe allegiance to Ka, God of Magic, but do not necessarily worship him, there are some priests of this demanding God, but again they are few.- RECOMMENDED MAGE FOR PC USE.

There are various other kinds of magic-user in Guyendor, but no matter what kind you are all mages use a point based magic system. (See Magic Overview, and Magic Pools)
